The occasion for this family get together, and the date, is unclear. But it might be the celebration of a significant event. For example if it was Stewart Donald’s 80th birthday it would mean it is probably around October 1914. This would make Garden Donald (11) 37 years old; Susan Donald (7) 76; and Agnes Donald (8) 29. These ages look about right.
My dad, Allan, thought that the little girl sitting on Stewart’s knee was his sister Violet, who would have been 2 years old at that time. If that’s the case then perhaps the girls standing next to her are her sisters Elizabeth (16) aged 7 and Frances (15) aged 4.
Identifying the others is a bit more speculative. Assuming the gathering includes Stewart’s other children Mary, Violet and Jane (George Donald, born 1869, and Stewart Donald, born 1872, do not appear to be around then and might possibly have emigrated to the USA), and grandchildren, then I would suggest the following. (Edit: I have amended the choice for Garden Smith and Stewart Smith in line with Jacquie’s suggestions).

Gordon, number 1 is my dad, Garden Smith and number 13 is my uncle Jim (James) Smith.
I think we need a concerted effort on this photo!
Hi Jacquie,
Yes we should get together and look at this properly. I’ll take on board your suggestions and see how this affects the other options.
I think it must be the Golden Wedding, as 1914 would make my dad 16 and my uncle Jim about 18. Also war was declared in August, so your grandfather might well already have been called up. The Golden wedding was 1912, so making my dad would be 14
